Book Information & Summary
Written by Lee Kyung Ju
A boy opens his eyes at the unfamiliar library even without knowing who he really is. He asks around people reading books, even shouts at people, but nobody gives him attention as if they cannot see the boy. Suddenly, a girl says hello to the boy. They both have something in common. They don’t remember their past, people in the library cannot see them, and lastly, they never sleep after waking up at the library. However, the girl knows one thing more than the boy. She brings him to a strange hidden room behind a huge bookshelf. The room with two different clocks showing different time belongs to the librarian. The librarian wearing a black hood provides them with a book for each one when they ask where they are and who they are.
“If you want answers, read this book.” (p. 16)
There is nothing written in this thick book, but amazingly, 10 letters have appeared when they open the first page. Only when they complete reading a page, then, letters come out in the next page. When they open other’s book, nothing is seen as well. Therefore, they both starts reading their own books away from each other. As they read their books, they begin feeling nervous and anxious. They don’t even remember who they are, but why the events in the book are so familiar to them? They have heard the names for the first time, but why do they feel uneasy reading the story of characters?
The main character, ‘Dong Ho’, in the boy’s book, is a high school student who happens to like PC room and karaoke instead of study. He has made friends with ‘Yi Soo’, a model student in the same class. He never expects that he can be a friend of Yi Soo, but Yi Soo is unexpectedly sporty and a good enough person who can study together. However, when Dong Ho finds out that Yi Soo cannot even have his own dream being raised by a violent father, he becomes eager to show another world to Yi Woo. And he begins to like Yi Soo as a friend. However, Yi Soo has deeper feelings toward Dong Ho, and when he confesses his feelings to Dong Ho, he gets confused.
The main character of the girl’s book uses a nickname ‘Zero’. Zero suffers from conflicts at home. Her only exit is a ‘drawing club’ and she meets the same aged boy, ‘Vancouver’ in the club. Vancouver says he has never learned art before, but his drawing skill attracts Zero’s attention. Then, the drawing time with sweet Vancouver becomes more valuable to Zero. She confesses how she feels about him, but he doesn’t feel the same way she does. When she finds out he has a feeling for somebody else, she feels all alone again. Her loneliness has turned into resentment toward Vancouver who doesn’t respond to her as well as toward the classmate boy whom Vancouver really likes.
The setting of this book is ‘Robio’, a mysterious library, where the girl and the boy are trapped. Readers may feel that they read three different books, but the world views of three books are all deeply connected. The girl and the boy, Dong Ho and Zero, and Yi Soo whom the girl and the boy feel upset whenever listening to his name…… When the connection between characters is discovered by the readers under the delicately presented clues by the writer, readers will be able to be thrilled and will deeply sympathize themselves with characters in terms of their situations and emotions.
