Book Information & Summary
Written by Choi Yoo-jeong / Illustrated by Hong Jeong-seon
A sixth grade boy Eun Ho goes to school and comes back home under his mother’s concern about his school grades. What he likes the most is soccer. He hangs out with his classmates, playing soccer. Bin, who was adopted, lives with his father and little brother in a small room at the top of co-op building, but he is always bright playing soccer in the ground. Woo Hyuk, who gets high grades as a class president, is very stubborn kid, not passing the ball to friends while playing soccer. Ki Chan, who makes jokes all the time, is always positive and brave, even though he does not get good grades, and is poor at soccer. The only girl player, Se Eun, is strong and confident, but she got hurt by her parents’ divorce. In the class 3 of 6th grade where all of these kids study together, the theft occurred several times, and all the kids became confused in this chaos.
Most mothers say to their children, “Do not hang out with such friend” Such friends are often the ones who do not get good grades, or whose family is not rich, or who behaves badly. The ones who mothers prefer are the friends who get good grades or
who come from a rich family. Children often respond to their mothers who try to divide friends, “He or she is not that kind of friend.” Looking for a Hidden Friend shows all the possibilities and strengths of each child by telling the unknown matters of their friends one by one.
It also tells us that we should not judge a friend based on grades or family wealth, because each of them in the class has his/her own strength, and does his/her best in his/her daily life.
