Book Information & Summary
Written by Kim Kyeong Yoon
The relationship between Min-Joo, the observer and main character, and Jang Doo Roo, a security guard, is the base of all the events happening in this book. The writer meticulously input the philosophy of Chuang-tzu, the ancient Chinese philosopher in this book. Jang Doo Roo is a sort of revived version of Chuang-tzu in today’s society. He is one of the philosophers who deeply consider what the best life is. For him, a good life comes from free minds. According to him, we have to look back on the common sense, ideology, stereotype built by others. If we throw away our own nature controlled by other people’s thinking, it leads us into tragedy.
Do we all live a happy life finding our own nature today? Moreover, do we nurture the generation in this way? This can be observed through the main character, Min Joo and Young Hoo, an 18-year-old student, preparing for college entrance exam. These characters begin realizing how to become themselves, not following the standardized figure asked by others in this society, and while doing so, ironically, they happen to experience reconciliation with adults.
