Book Information & Summary
Written by Lee Sang-kwon
The main character Si-woo suffered from dyslexia only a few days after the high school began. The first symptom was shown in English course. When he tried to read his book, suddenly, he felt dark and dizzy and the letters were all changed into dots, or sometimes, weird shapes. In the end, Si-woo had to be punished in the first day at school. However, he felt the same in other courses as well. Si-woo could not help being punished by teachers because of dyslexia, and eventually became ‘non-existing’ person in his class.
To make matters worse, he also was picked up by the head teacher due to his hair style, and his friends also thought Si-woo as a bad kid. Si-woo, who went to the school first, and who was being punished by teachers, decided to ask for help. He confessed his disease, dyslexia, and asked other teachers to understand him, however, his teacher did not seem to notice Si-woo was one of his class students. He was so frustrated with himself, and finally came up with the idea to prove he was not a bad student, or an idiot. The very best idea was to do great in exams. Si-woo worked so hard enough to shorten his sleeping time for the mid-term exam. However, the exam result was almost the lowest. That was because he had to go to the toilet due to stomachache and he got blank during the tests.
The main character, Lee, Si-woo, is the avatar of the author. This book tells us how to overcome the wounds in heart during high school, and how important it is to try to realize one°Øs dream. This is the story of the author himself, but at the same time, this is the story of all of us these days. What helps us not to get twisted in the childhood is someone who trusts us and our self-esteem, which continuously identifies ourselves by concentrating something we wanted.
