Book Information & Summary
Written by Lim Tae-hee
Young-joo and Yi-son try to forget unfortunate memories of ‘sexual assault’ and ‘unhappy family’. Ryoo-hwa can feel that she lives only when she dresses herself up. Young-joo, a 17-year-old girl, began to write a story after being inspired by doodling on the school wall. From this moment, the whole story is developed as another new story in the original story. In the new story, the main character is a girl who believes she is somebody’s avatar. She also believes that the emotion is all gone, and people can say something only that the God chose, which are allowed to use in the system. This novel becomes even more interesting when Yi-son, who put bandage on her hand all the time, joined this strange but intriguing story-telling.
Girls got fallen for the fun of creation, but also felt pain at the same time. The source of their pain was their trauma in their childhood. Accidentally, they all realized that their wounds in heart were originated from the wounds in their body. The memory of being raped by cousin, and a stranger, the memory of mother who was beaten by alcoholic father, and the memory of the father who left their mother are all related to harsh and unfortunate family history.
It is quite painful to remember their difficult and harsh past to write a story, however, this creative work of writing also saved them from terrible trauma. It makes us feel better when Young-joo and Yi-son became reliable friends to each other. This book exactly shows the social irregularities and the injustice that teenagers of our age feel, with solid plot and dramatic tension. This book also well reflects the reality that everyone is controlled by a system, regardless of their will, through ‘avatar’.
The author says, ‘Pain is necessary to realize the meaning of life. One who has not been in pain will not be able to know the true meaning of life.’
