Book Information & Summary
Written and Illustrated by Iwona Chmielewska
A mysterious book presented in a double structure where one story starts from the beginning of the book and the other story begins from the end, both stories being connected in the middle.
Clara got a blue stick and Eric got a blue box as gifts on their 9th birthday party. The stick and the box were artifacts inherited from generation to generation, but no one knows where these are from and what they are for. There was just a memo for usage Written in an ancient note. The blue stick was meant to be used to train mice, perform plays, and draw the perfect circle on snow fields. The blue box was meant to be used to put mirror inside the box and play, to raise chicken, and to manage time by making it a sandglass. The ending is that the two kids say, 'I will write some great stories on that note.' This picture book has a unique structure, where the two stories begin from different sides of the book, one from the beginning and the other from the end, but eventually are connected in the middle. The book, with fantastic illustrations, presents us some surrealistic scenes with soft lines and colors as well. Numerous symbols and metaphors hidden in these illustrations provoke endless imagination for us. Although the original story was created by Iwona Chmielewska, a Polish writer, this book was planned and published in close co-work of the writer herself and the editors of SaKyeJul Publishing Ltd.
