Book Information & Summary
Written and Illustrated by Kim Jung Suk
For a gorilla and a hedgehog, it’s good to be together!
There are two main characters in this story about a night-out for camping – a gorilla who seems faithful but a bit sloppy, and a hedgehog who cares about his friend even if he looks edgy and sharp tempered. Their dialogue leads the whole story so interestingly. The two friends always disagree each other. The sloppy gorilla doesn’t know how to find a way, or build a tent, and he also is not good at preparing dinner all by himself. The hedgehog, who turned down the offer to go camping, nags at the gorilla quite often. However, he helped his friend doing what his friend wanted to do at the decisive moment. When readers look at those two friends quarreling at each other, they might think of their close people. It could be their siblings, friends, parents, lovers, or even a married spouse. Readers will read the story by coming up with their own relationship while reading this book. The story naturally becomes my own story.
They look like fighting over all day, but there’s a moment they cry out loud together, ‘It’s good to be out’. Those moments are when they have a good meal together, when they see the night sky together, and when they go to bed in the silent woods. Happiness has already visited and stayed around us without knowing.
The story is so simple. There is no dramatic event, and the relationship between the gorilla and the hedgehog is not too good or not too bad. Actually, there’s no issue between them. It is as if an ordinary daily life story is inside in this book. It’s good even if it’s boring, and because there’s nothing going on. Our daily life seems also ok just as it is. The warm heart that we can say, ‘It’s good’, just because we can see the beautiful sky sometimes, is well presented in this book.
