The story lets us think of life, freedom, and death, and how we confront death. A hen is always forced to give birth to eggs, being kept inside a cage whose purpose is to make profits for humans. She begins to question her destiny as someone only having to give birth to eggs losing her eggs to humans, and wishes to hatch out her own eggs and let them grow up. Due to this wish, she never gets fed, become thrown away as a disabled hen, and finally comes to be in trouble to the point of death. Then, she eventually starts her new battle to survive. She finds out that the cage would never be a place where she can preserve her life and freedom, so she runs away to the real world to give birth to eggs. However, she, then, realizes that she would never be able to give birth to eggs any more. She, instead, takes care of eggs of a wandering duck and hatches out baby ducks. She raises the ducks and lets them head away to the free world. Then, she finally gives her own life to a weasel who has waited for an opportunity to take her life for so long, being freed from the life, and death in the end.
